Inspirational Day of Learning at Plymouth Science Park
Updated: Jun 7, 2019
Day one of the Fast Track to Growth Intensive Programme at Plymouth Science Park came and went in a flurry.
In fact, it was so good, that’s why we have a break for a couple of weeks before day 2!
Nineteen shortlisted businesses took part with sessions on strategy, marketing, sales and finance.
Dan Pritchard of Marketing and PR Partner Astley Media, talked through the Astley Media 5-Step approach to marketing success before getting the companies working on their story, their ‘go giving’ strategy, how to stand out in the market and building their tribe.
Geri Panteva of Devon County Council’s Economy team, who help fund the programme, highlighted opportunities available to businesses in Devon, including grants, apprenticeships and networking and the Devon Delivers project.
Rachael Howourth from Momentum South West had the businesses working on sales skills, helping delegates develop their proposition and sharing top-tips on how to really find out what potential customers are looking for.
James Court, Business Growth Enabler of Natwest helped the companies develop their business elevator pitch. He recommends the ‘five-year-old test’, suggesting you should be able to explain exactly what your business does in less than 60 seconds, in a way that a five year old would understand. The guidance will be vital for the businesses for the final Pitch event, where one business will win £10,000 worth of on-going business support.
Denise Anstey of Heartfelt Products said: "Thank you for Tuesday, everyone was so lovely, it was immensely informative and a fabulous day. I am hard at work implementing new strategies, putting into practice what was discussed and phoning some contacts which were passed to me with some meetings booked for next week. It's lovely to feel that support.”
A big thank you to our FT2G Partners, to Plymouth Science Park for hosting and of course the FT2G companies who got stuck in with the learning, asked lots of questions and cracked on with the work at a lightning pace!
