Discover Dartington...

Kindly contributed by Karen Jonas, Dartington Hall

I was delighted when Elle of Astley Media asked me to write a blog that captured the uniqueness of Dartington Hall, where the Fast Track to Growth Business Festival will be taking place on Wednesday 24 April. Dartington Hall is a really special place and not like any other venue.

Dartington Hall is a Grade I listed venue and the largest medieval manor house in the West of England.  It is a social enterprise; the enterprise companies of The Dartington Hall Trust generate revenue which supports its charitable programmes in the arts, social justice and sustainability. It’s great working at a venue with a conscience.

It is also full of rich heritage.  At every step there is an interesting fact. The Great Hall was built by John Holand, half-brother of Richard II in 1388, and was owned by two of Henry VIII wives, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.

Following the second world war, one of our function rooms was used by Lord Young and members of the Labour Party, when they drafted their post war manifesto, which included the outline of the NHS. We like to say the NHS was born at Dartington.

Another of the function rooms, the Ship Studio, has an impressive 3m historic graffiti of a 15th/16th century ship scratched into the wall, like I said, interesting facts everywhere.

We host over 380 events each year; from executive away days, business meetings, banqueting events and our annual International Summer School. Dartington has 50 bedrooms offering a mix of heritage and comfort and 10 unique meeting rooms. Our talented Chefs create delicious food, we pride ourselves on being able to tailor our offer to fit our clients’ requirements and showcase the very best local and seasonal produce,

Our stunning 1200 estate can be used for a variety of team building and incentive experiences from orienteering and archery, to kayaking and raft building on the River Dart. Recently we have even starting offering ‘Farmer for the Day’ and ‘Milking Experiences’ for visitors who want to try their hand at working the land!

We work hard to respond to emerging trends so we’re always thinking outside the box.  We listen to our customers to ensure we’re always improving the service we offer. We’re delighted to be hosting the Fast Track to Growth Business Festival and look forward to welcoming ambitious business people to our unique and special venue.
